The league was launched in May of 2012. Garena began their Garena Premier League (GPL) that is a 6-month professional league for online gamers with over 100 games that will be held. GPL's inaugural season features six teams of experienced League of Legends players. that represent elite players from their respective countries. GPL games are filmed and broadcast live on-line with commentary, available for viewing on the GPL's official website. Garena Premier League 2013, that began on January 4 2013, will include two teams that are each of Taiwan and Vietnam. It brings the teams' total to eight. AHQ, Saigon Fantastic Five, Bangkok Titans, Kuala Lumpur Hunters, Manila Eagles, Taipei Assassins, and Singapore Sentinels are the teams. The Garena E-Sports arena, an arena for esports is a venue that was inaugurated in November of 2014, in the Neihu District of Taipei. The studio was built partially to facilitate the launch of the League of Legends Masters Series, the top-level Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau LoL league that was spin-off of the GPL. Garena launched with the Iron Solari League - a League of Legends competition for women living in the Philippines at the beginning of January 2015. It is a bi-monthly tournament that takes place in the second half of every month. The event is designed to encourage participation by communities that are underrepresented and is open to all women who identify the same.
